Description
The Centre for Effective Practice, along with the Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division and Cancer Care Ontario developed the patient education publication 'Testing for Cancer: My Options. My choice.' We hope that this will be a useful tool for clinicians to promote cancer screening to patients. The information in this booklet will help patients to understand the tests that are available today and answer many questions they will have. It will also help them explore personal values around making health decisions. Personal values are influenced by the things that are important to individuals (e.g., family, career and community) and how they deal with stress (casually or with high anxiety). Knowing more about testing for cancer is important to make an informed decision.
Information in this toolkit will help patients to:
• Understand testing options;
• Identify if they are at risk for getting specific cancers;
• Consider their personal values regarding testing for cancer;
• Understand how they can reduce their risk;
• Find out where they can learn more.
