Bio

Dr. Harvey is an Associate Professor with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and a full member of the University’s School of Graduate Studies. From 2003 to 2008 Bart served as the Director of Family and Community Medicine Research and from 1996 to 2006 as the Director of U of T’s Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency Program. He is the Chair of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada’s (RCPSC) CanMEDS 2015 Research Expert Working Group, a past President (2002-2004) of the Canadian National Specialty Society for Community Medicine, and past Chair (2006-2012) of the RCPSC’s Specialty Committee for Public Health and Preventive Medicine. He has served three 3-year terms on the Board of the American College of Preventive Medicine and is a long standing member (since 2001) of the American Board of Preventive Medicine’s Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Examination Committee.

Dr. Harvey has been the principal or co-author on dozens of papers published in peer-reviewed journals and has presented invited and peer-reviewed papers at national and international professional meetings. In recognition of his teaching excellence, Bart received the American Medical Writers Association’s (AMWA) Golden Apple Award in 2006 and in 2009 became an AMWA Fellow.  In 2011 he was also awarded Fellowship in the American College of Epidemiology. He also served for many years as one of the City of Toronto’s investigating coroners.
